The client was a reputable Robotic Assisted Surgery platform that’s currently in approximately 20 medical facilities and has been in beta since 2020. It has remained in beta primarily due to a need to improve the accuracy and performance of data and an improved user experience.
Client's leadership was looking for support in assessing the current state of the product, focusing on improving the user experience as well as solving the architectural and data processing challenges that exist today. We were engaged to develop a single platform roadmap to guide their team in achieving both near-term and long-term platform modernization.
In support of this initiative, we worked in two distinct, but closely coordinated work-streams:
This team reviewed the existing data architecture, including data ingestion, storage, and processing to identify areas of concern around performance and data integrity. Additionally worked with the client to identified potential barriers to achieving future state technology functionality
The UX team worked with the client to assess the current and future state vision, priorities and experience of the product with the goal of backcasting a next/near/future roadmap.
For this short-term engagement, we honed in on a typical usage scenario of a pulmonary interventionist on the Physician Insights portal. I worked with a UX Strategist to outline the main flow. Upon completion of the flow, I created low fidelity wireframes using the scenario of a pulmonary interventionist who had logged into the portal to find more data on a recently completed biopsy.
As key designer on the project, and a part of the User Experience work-stream, I owned the design of low, mid and high fidelity interfaces and prototypes.
Participated in stakeholder interviews during discovery efforts to review current state and dive into future vision.
Collaborated with key stakeholders, and UX Strategy to identify areas of opportunity and turn customer pain-points into product features.
Organized and led critique sessions to obtain feedback on content and visual designs to inform further iteration and enhance the UX deliverable.

We made key UX recommendations for the client based on our findings.
Align on a single, modern design system to use across all digital solutions and implement it consistently. Ensure usability and accessibility benchmarks are met.
Integrate additional usage and diagnostic data, filtering, and other features to surface more actionable insights
Establish a user research program both to solicit feedback and identify opportunities for continual improvement.
Following our recommendations, the team was commissioned to embark on a longer term project to enhance the usability and user experience of the platform.
